RANCHI: The 24-hour state bandh called by CPI (Maoist), beginning Wednesday midnight, evoked a mixed response in the state on Thursday.
While life in urban areas remained normal, shops and other commercial establishments remained closed during the day in the rural areas.
The rebels had called the bandh to press for the demand for production of five of their senior leaders allegedly arrested by the police, before court. Movement of inter-city and inter-state buses was affected, creating problem for commuters. Mining and dispatch of minerals were badly affected in some pockets of the state. Sources in a coal company, operating in the Maoist-hit districts, said they managed to continue mining in most of the mines but dispatch was badly affected due to the bandh.
