Two Maoist leaders arrested in Bokaro

BOKARO: Two hardcore Maoists – active in Naxalite-prone Jhumra since last 10 years – have been arrested in a raid at Jamnijara village in Gomia block here.

The arrested Maoists have been identified as Jatu Manjhi alias Nilamber and Naresh Manjhi alias Suresh. They both are residents of Simrabeda village of Gomia and close to Naxalite leaders Navin Manjhi and Mithilesh Singh and are members of armed squad of the outfit. They have launched several attacks on police forces and blew up railway tracks in Jhumra, police said.

Bokaro SP Kuldeep Dwivedi said that a police team, following a tip-off, went to Jamnijara and arrested the duo. While Naresh was wanted in six Maoist violence cases, 12 cases have been framed against Jatu. “Naresh was involved in blowing up a patrolling engine near Daniya Vihar in 2011 in which an RPF havildar was killed. Jatu has also been involved in attacking police parties. Their arrest is an achievement for police,” he said.

Dwivedi added that the arrested Maoists have revealed vital information about rebels in police interrogation which would be useful for them. Jatu was lured by Singh into joining the outfit in 2002 while Naresh was made to join by force.
