RANCHI: In a joint operation, CRPF and Khunti district police have detained five suspected Maoists from Arki on Saturday afternoon.

Security personnel have also recovered four firearms, including a rifle, along with ammunition. Some Naxalite literature, including books on Maoist ideology and posters, were also recovered from their possession. Khunti SP Venu Tamilvanan confirmed the detention of five suspected Maoists and recovery of arms and ammunition from their possession.

“The five persons were arrested from a forest near Arki when security personnel were returning from a combing operation in the area,” said the SP, adding police are interrogating the detained persons to ascertain their involvement in different incidents. Only after we are able to ascertain their involvement with a rebel organization, we will disclose their names and case records,” said the SP.

Police sources said that the detained persons are not admitting their involvement with any rebel outfit. “Recovery of weapons and Naxalite literature from their possession establishes their relation beyond doubt. The interrogation is likely to be completed by late on Saturday night,” said a source.
