SNGPL workers protest lack of job security

LAHORE: A large number of daily wage employees of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) staged a protest for their right to job security and against the SNGPL’s management in the front of Lahore Press Club on Sunday.

The protesters displayed placards, chanted slogans against the SNGPL management and demanded the federal government assure their job security and give them permanent employee status.

Protesters said that most of the SNGPL employees across the province had been working on contractual or casual basis for the past 5-10 years. They said that Petroleum Minister Dr Asim Hussain had announced this week that all casual and contractual staff of Sui Northern would be regularised and appointment letters would be issued to employees within a week. They claimed that after the announcement, the SNGPL’s top management was trying to sack them and hire new staff. They said that they would not stop the protest until they were assured job security and got permanent employee status.\01\09\story_9-1-2012_pg13_5
