Five Maoists arrested in Bhanuprataptur in Chattisgarh

Raipur, January 1 In a setback to the rebels, police and security forces arrested five ultras-one of them a proclaimed offender-in the Bhanupratappur area of Chhattisgarh state in central India on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, police and personnel from India’s Border Security Force conducted a daring joint search operation and arrested the rebels during a raid on their hideout.

Briefing mediapersons, the Sub Divisional Officer of Bhanupratappur Police Station disclosed that one of the arrested persons is a dreaded ultra who was wanted in a string of criminal cases.
“In a joint operation conducted by the district police and the Border Security Force, a dreaded Maoist has been arrested. He had several warrants issued against him. He is also an accused in several cases pertaining to murder, robbery and rioting. He has also held several roles in various Maoist groups and has been an active ultra,” said Sub-Divisional Officer (Police) of Bhanupratappur, Tarakeshwar Patel

The state administration has intensified operations against the Maoists during the last few weeks. (ANI)
