FAISALABAD: Angry protesters set the Awagatt police check post on Jaranwala road near Faisalabad on fire while protesting against the killing of a man by police on Friday night, reported Express News on Saturday.
On Friday, the police had conducted a raid to arrest an alleged robber and had opened fire when they faced resistance. A man identified as Sabir was killed and his servant was injured in the firing.
The protesters blocked the Jaranwala road, pelted stones and even snatched a gun from a police official when they tried to disperse them.
The police, in efforts to disperse the mob, resorted to aerial firing and shelling, which injured many protesters.
Spokesperson Faisalabad Police said that a case would be registered regarding the incident and a judicial inquiry will be held into it.
The protesters have blocked the road since four hours and traffic is still suspended as police is trying to negotiate with them.
