MIDNAPORE/PURULIA: Four suspected Maoist squad members and a member of Peoples’ Committee Against Police Atrocities were arrested in Jhargram and Purulia. Acting on a tip off, security forces raided Karma village of Balarampur, where they rounded up Maoist squad member Gostho Gope on Monday afternoon, Purulia police said. The four others were arrested on Tuesday.
The interrogation revealed that the Maoists were planning to eliminate members of anti-Maoist forums at Karma village. In a following raid, police rounded three other Maoist squad members.
A separate raid led to the arrest of Bimal Mahato alias Mithun, a PCPA activist from Kalaboni village of Jhargram. The Jhargram superintendent confirmed that Mithun was wanted in several cases which included a case of sedition.
