ROURKELA: A key Maoist cadre, who is said to be a close associate of senior rebel leader Samarjee, came under the police net, here on Monday. Rourkela police nabbed him in a combing operation and recovered a revolver, five live bullets, Rs 78,500 in cash and a few Maoist leaflets from him.
According to sources, in a routine combing operation in Jhirpani-Toda forest area, Rourkela police nabbed one Ramesh Charva (22). During interrogation, it was revealed that Charva has been an active Maoist cadre and has been a close associate of Samarjee. Ramesh is a native of Tirilposh of West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.
“During interrogation, he confessed that he has been working with the Maoist outfit CPI (Maobadi) since the past three years, mainly in the Odisha-Jharkhand border,” said Rourkela SP Himansu Lal. “He also confessed that one Gangu Munda, another senior Maoist cadre had handed over the cash to him for use of the Maoist organization, which was seized from him by police,” Lal added.
