CHINESE PROTESTS AGAINST POLLUTION, POLICE DISPERSE CROWD

(AGI) Beijing – China has experienced yet another episode of popular protest. Eyewitnesses report that in Haimen, a city in the country’s industrial heartland of Guangdong Province, police in riot gear used tear gas and batons to disperse a crowd that had attacked several government buildings. The protesters were demanding the transfer of a coal-fired industrial plant because it would produce toxic waste, harmful to health. According to sources a fifteen year-old died and over a hundred people were savagely beaten. . .
