In one of the biggest acquisitions, the CRPF has acquired as many as 18,000 AK 47 and 6382 X-95 sophisticated assault rifles for further intensifying anti-Naxal operations in the ultra-Left extremism affected States.
This besides, a large number of Night Vision Devices have also been provided to the CRPF and CoBRA troops deployed in the Naxal-hit areas. The paramilitary is also launching the CRPF Intelligence School on December 19 at CRPF Academy at Kadarpur in Gurgaon for training the personnel in collecting intelligence in the Naxal-hit areas.
Officials said the CRPF has already pushed the Naxals hard in Bheji, Palnar, and Makarchuha (all in Dantewada), Saranda (Jharkhand) and Lalgarh (West Bengal) and plans to further push them so that fewer casualties are suffered by the security forces.
“The harder we push them (Naxals), more of them (the adversaries) will get neutralized. The more of them get neutralized, fewer of us (CRPF and other security personnel) will have casualties,” an official said elaborating on the need to intensify the action against the ultras.
With a view to boost the morale of the personnel deployed in Naxal areas, the Centre has taken a number of initiatives like choice posting after completion of three years’ tenure in Naxal-hit areas. Such personnel are also being given preference in posting to CoBRA, Rapid Action Force, deputation in foreign countries, Special Protection Group, National Security Guards and Special Duty Group among others.
A number of support items have been included for procurement at the Group Centre level like fogging machines, intruder alarm systems for Quarter Guards, disruptive pattern T Shirts and Greyhound pattern jungle shoes.
