Two dead in Yemen prison mutiny

SANAA: Clashes between Yemeni prisoners and their guards in a jail south of the capital on Friday left two people dead and two others wounded, a police officer and human rights activists told AFP.

“Two prisoners were killed and two others wounded in clashes with prison guards in the prison of Dhamar,” 100 kilometres (60 miles) from Sanaa, a local police officer told AFP.

The officer gave no explanation for the outbreak of the mutiny but noted that prison authorities had called in reinforcements to help squash it.

Human rights activists confirmed the number of casualties.
