After two days of the violence witnessed during the 27th anniversary of gas tragedy, police claimed to have identified 15 persons responsible for arson and stone-pelting.
On Saturday, different organisations working for the cause of gas victims had given a call for a ‘rail roko’. Following this, activists affiliated with these organisations blocked tracks at several railway crossings in the city between Habibganj and the main railway station.
The violence was sparked off at Berkhedi railway crossing and protesters went berserk damaging vehicles and burning over two dozen vehicles at the railway crossing. After having arrested 15 rioters, police are searching for the rest, numbering nearly 2,000 inside the Walled City.
Senior officials did not confirm that exact number of rioters arrested till the time of filing this report. ASP Rajesh Chandel, speaking to media, said that police are trying to identify the rioters by going through video clippings available with the police videographer and news channel personnel.
