Cadres of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) today blocked the Muniguda-Chandrapur-Phulbani road ahead of the 48-hours Nationwide shutdown beginning tomorrow to protest the killing of one of their top leaders, Kishenji in a shootout with police in West Bengal Nov 24.
Maoists have blocked the –Telngapadar-Dangasorada-Chandrapur at Dorabanch and Gangapadr under Maoist hotbed Chandrapur block of the district by felling giant trees on the road thereby obstructing the vehicular traffic between Chandrapur –Kotagad-Phulbani, police sources said.
The Maoist infested Chandrapur Block in Rayagada district shares its border with Phulbani and has turned into a Maoist hotbed over the years with the cadres of the Basadara Divisional Committee of the banned CPI(Maoist) are active in the region.
All the private buses in the district headquarter town and other places in the district was plying as usual today, the second day of the week long PLGA celebration. Fearing Maoist attack, however, the OSRTC authority has kept their vehicles off road. However, the celebration failed to hit the normal life in the district.
Claiming every thing was normal in the district, Rayagada SDPO V.R.Rao said no untoward incident has been reported till today. Adequate security arrangements have been done for the bandh call on December 4 and 5 and all roads leading to the area were under surveillance and intense combing operation was also on in the area, he added.
