KOKSHETAU, Kazakhstan – A Kokshetau court has lengthened the sentences of 14 inmates for organising a labour-camp riot last year, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported November 30.
The court November 30 extended the prisoners’ sentences by 1 year and 4 months to 19 years, Damilya Orazayeva, an inmate’s mother, told RFE/RL.
Hundreds of inmates in the ETs-166/25 labour camp protested August 9, 2010. Two died after troops quelled the incident August 11. The defendants’ relatives plan to appeal.
