BALANGIR: The bullet riddled body of a ward member of Khuripani village, Krushna Punji (45) was found on the outskirts of the village on Tuesday morning.
This is second such incident here after the killing of Raj Kishore Panda of Telenpali village in Khaprakhol block on August 14. Panda was a nominee of Balangir MP Kalikesh Singhdeo in the block.
Reports said about 30 armed Maoists including five female cadres called for Krushna from his house late on Monday night. Sensing trouble, his son, Karna (21) insisted on accompanying him. Karna said the Maoists assaulted his father accusing him of corruption and sexual exploitation. They then tied him to a tree and shot him dead. They left behind a poster in Hindi accusing Krushna of raping a physically challenged girl on April 21 and embezzlement of BPL rice. The poster was issued by Balangir-Nuapada division committee (CPI Maoists).
It is learnt that police did not reach the spot even after 18 hours of the incident.
The Balangir SP Awinish Kumar, Patnagarh SDPO Laxmi Narayan Panda and Khaprakhol IIC Norbert Kiro arrived here on Tuesday afternoon and retrieved the dead body for autopsy.
Meanwhile, Maoist posters have also been found at Chachrabhata, Ghunsar and Ghujachali under Patnagarh sub-division.
