Security forces on Monday evening arrested four wanted Maoists belonging to ‘Madhya Zone’, from Khemdra village under Chhatarpur Police Station.
The four include two sub-zonal rank commanders — Balkesh Yadav and Madan Ram — and area commanders Heera Ram and Vishwanath. Security forces also recovered two country-made rifles and over dozen cartridges from them.
“We were getting specific inputs about Maoist movement under Chhatarpur block. The rebels were trying to put up posters in different villages,” said Palamu SP in-charge Sudhir Kumar Jha. He added that with the arrest of these rebels, the outfit will suffer a major setback.
Ram is the veteran Maoist earlier associated with the Maoist command centre, who later joined CPI(Maoist) after merger with People’s War Group in 2004. “Three years ago, Madan was sent to Palamu, where his in-laws live,” said Jha.
Balkesh Yadav has four cases against him under Chhatarpur police station and is known to be a good strategist. He is notorious but police managed to arrest him without firing a single round.
“On specific inputs, the operation was launched and during a long range patrolling near Khemdra forests, we spotted a Maoist squad. Security personnel challenged them. When the rebels espied the 60-odd heavily armed personnel, they started running away,” said Jha. Police sources added that Maoists in the area were trying to re-strengthen and mobilise people to join them.
