Maoist rebels raid plywood factory in Mindanao

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Nov. 9, 2011) – New People’s Army rebels raided a plywood factory and torched its equipment before escaping in the province of Agusan del Sur in the southern Philippines, military officials said Wednesday.

Officials said communist gunmen attacked the factory of the Casilayan Softwood Development Corporation in the village of San Salvador in Prosperidad town on Tuesday.

The rebels, numbering about 20, fled after the attack, said Army Major Eugenio Osias, a spokesman for the 4th Infantry Division.
