Daring the cops, about 200 armed Maoist rebels were attacked a police base camp at Konta under the Dantewda district of bordering Chhatisgarh on Monday night.
The rebels attacked the base camp in the remote Konta village, some 5 km away from Motu police limits in the district at about 8.30 pm on Monday, said Dantewada Superintendent of Police Ankit Garg to Orissa Diary Correspondents.
The outlaws started firing at the base camp of Chhatisgarh police there and later the cops retaliated. The gun battle between both the sides was lasted till 10.00 pm and the stiff resistance from the police finally forced the extremists to flee from the spot, Garg added.
On their way back they were attacked constable Rajuram Maldavi and Nandakishor Sinha and snatched away a Rifle from the former, the S.P informed adding more forces have been rushed to Konta and search operation there is on. The two cops who were injured during the exchange of fire were admitted into to hospital in Bhadrachalam district of Andhra Pradesh.
The condition of the duo are now stable, Dantewada police sources said.
