Workers protest deaths over poverty

Workers have expressed their anguish over deaths of youth, unemployed workers and old pensioners on account of rising abject poverty and aggravating unemployment allowing the rich to be richer and poor to be poorer day by day.

They participated in a protest march held on Friday under the aegis of Pakistan Workers Federation, abhorring government’s economic and social policies compelling people to take their own lives. Participants led by union leader Khurshid Hussain Shah, Khushi Muhammad Khokhar and Salahuddin Ayyubi specifically lodged their protest against the tragic situation prevailing in the country, demanding of the government take immediate measures for provision of relief to the dependents of late Raja Hassan and deceased pensioner. They also asked the government to make public sector enterprises, including Railways, PIA, Pakistan Steel and utilities, financially viable through progressive management policies.
