MANILA, Philippines – A soldier of the Philippine Army was wounded in an encounter with alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Agusan del Sur on Friday.
The soldier, identified by authorities as Corporal Matias Auxtero Jr. of the 26th Infantry Battalion, was shot on the chest.
Authorities said the army troops were conducting combat patrol in Sitio New Tubigon, Sibagat town when they encountered 7 armed men.
The armed men are believed to be members of the NPA’s Guerilla Front 21-B.
The gunfight lasted for 15 minutes before the alleged NPA members escaped, authorities said. –
