Protest In Ilesa Over Killing Of Student By Police

There was anxiety in Ilesha, Osun State, last week Thursday, as angry residents and students in the ancient town slugged it out with the men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, over the killing of Adaramoye Adewale, a 300-level Primary Education Student of Osun State College of Education, Ilesha.

He was allegedly killed by a stray bullet, when the police were parading campus area, Ayeso, last Wednesday.

When the death of Adaramoye was confirmed last Friday, the students of the college trooped out in mass, to protest the killing, and alleged the Ilesha Police Area Commander, Mr. S Turnor, of masterminding the attack on the students’ community.

The leader of the protesting students, Oludare Emanuel, alleged Turnor of being hostile to the students, arguing that the command had the record of students’ brutality and harassment in the past.

The students were therefore demanding the arrest and prosecution of the police officer, who shot the student.

Anti-riot police men however stalled the protest by dispersing the protesting students with tear gas and sporadic gunshots.

Eight students of the college, Musibau Orisawale, Lewa Obara, Egbeyemi Egbesakin, Kinsley Tosin, Jegede Tosin and three others were later arrested and currently detained at the State Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Osogbo.
