Ido, in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti was grounded on Thursday as the people of the town went on the rampage to protest the alleged killing of a lady identified as Tayo Abe, by a policeman.
The angry protesters attempted to burn down the police station in the town when they stormed the place in protest against the killing.
The protesters also alleged that the same policeman shot and injured two siblings of Abe whom they identified as Adeniyi and Ayodeji.
The siblings were said to have been shot in their father’s farm on the outskirts of the town farm while they were harvesting maize.
The protesters barricaded the roads in the town and made bonfires, explaining that Tayo Abe died on the spot while her siblings were said to have been shot in the arm and the leg and were taken to an undisclosed hospital.
A source said that the protest angered the policemen at the station, who opened fire on the protesters and injured six persons. Four persons were said to have been injured among the protesters while stray bullet hit two others.
One Taiwo Eyiola, said to be an assistant to the traditional ruler of the community, was allegedly shot in the leg by the police when he was said to be trying to calm the youth who invaded the police station.
Other people shot, according to sources in the community, who was Seun Babatunde reportedly shot and injured while praying in a nearby mosque and a commercial motorcyclist, Segun Ogunmuase, who was hit by a stray bullet.
