1 dead, 1 wounded in North Cotabato clash

MANILA (Xinhua) — One New People’s Army (NPA) member died and one special forces soldier of the Philippine army was wounded when they clashed Thursday morning in Sitio upper Lumbo in Arakan city of North Cotabato province in southern Philippines, police said.

According to reports from Arakan Police Chief Benjamin Rioflorido, around 30 rebels exchanged intense gun battle with the special forces of the Philippine army assigned to the area.

The local civil society groups said a hundred of families had fled their homes to safer places in Arakan town.
