ROURKELA: Unfazed by the massive area domination operation in the deep Saranda forest along the Orissa-Jharkhand border, Jharkhand-based Maoists brutally murdered a person accusing him of being a ‘police informer’ and disposed of the body at the adjacent Karampada in Jharkhand. Jharkhand Police on Sunday retrieved the body near a railway cabin, about 150 km from Rourkela. The victim’s hands were tied at the back and throat slit. A Maoist poster found near the body described him as a ‘police informer’. A case has been registered in Kiruburu police station.
Jharkhand’s Chaibasa SP Arun Kumar Singh said they are verifying the identity of the deceased. He is thought to be Suresh, a native of Karampada who had settled at Bondamunda near Rourkela.
The impact of the massive combing operation by the joint forces of Orissa and Jharkhand to sanitise the ‘core areas’ of the Saranda forest seems to be fizzling out with the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit showing all signs of regrouping. On Friday night, a group of guerillas opened fire at the CRPF personnel at Karampada and fled when challenged. Confirming the incident, Singh said there has been no report of casualties on either side. Following reports of fresh movement of Maoists, the Rourkela Police have stepped up surveillance at the border pockets of the Bonai sub-division to prevent possible infiltration.
