Fearing Maoist attack, leaders asked to stay at safe places

In view of repeated Maoists’ attacks targeting people’s representative, the leaders hailing from the Leftwing insurgency prone regions, especially Bastar, have been asked to stay only at safe places and move only after duly informing the district authorities and the police, sources said.

The advisory comes following the attack at the residence of the ruling BJP legislator from Bindranavagarh, Damrudhar Pujari, earlier this week. The security of all the legislators is being reviewed as this year, Maoists carried out three attacks targeting the leaders. On October 11, rebels struck at house of Damrudhar Pujari, the BJP MLA and took away his PSO’s pistol.

The attack came within three months after the attack on the cavalcade of Congress State chief Nand Kumar Patel in Gariyaband district on July 20. Four persons were killed in the attack. In another attack, Maoists killed Mundraram Sodi, a BJP leader on June 25, 2011.

Given the Maoists’ threat, the State Government has already made arrangements for safe residences for legislators in the district town of their areas and the State Capital as well.
