Kolkata Amid the truce offer, the Maoists on Wednesday slammed the state government’s move to recruit 10,000 police constables from Junglemahal and termed it as an “conspiracy hatched by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee”.
A statement signed by one Akash, who identified himself as CPI(Maoist) state committee secretary, read: “She (Mamata Banerjee) wants to give arms to the tribal population and we are apprehending that she will bring the Salwa Judum back in West Bengal by violating the verdict of the Supreme Court.”
The Maoists have questioned the hiring of the youths as constables. “We also want that unemployed youths should be employed. But they can be done in other ways by employing the youths in education, health and several other departments,” the statement added.
The Maoists, who have been silent on the government’s move until now, have released the statement just two days before the chief minister’s scheduled visit to Jhargram in the Naxal-affected Junglemahal.
The Maoists said that they are yet to receive any word from the state government on their peace offer.
“We were deceived. After considering her promises, we were also interested in the peace process and gave positive response. We also met two government appointed interlocutors. But we are yet to get any response from the government regarding the peace talk and our proposal,” the statement read.
“Before the (Assembly) elections, she promised a number of things. But nothing was implemented. She said that she would solve the Junglemahal problem in five days and she will release the political prisoners. But she has appointed a review committee, which was nothing but an eye wash. We are sure that people of Gorkhaland will also start renew their movement. She has deceived everybody,” added the statement.
