Riot at Amioun ends with release of prisoner’s mom

BEIRUT: A riot at Amioun prison in Koura, north Lebanon, ended late Saturday after authorities released the mother of a prisoner who tried to smuggle drugs to her son.

The mother, who was arrested Saturday for trying to smuggle drugs to her son Haytham Allaw, signed a paper saying she would not repeat the offense, a security source told The Daily Star.

The mother was released late Saturday, the source added. Her arrest was the main cause of the revolt.
