Army’s 401Bde condemns extortion activities of the NPA

ST. CHRISTINE, Lianga, Surigao del Sur, Sept. 27 (PIA) – The 401st Infantry “Unite N’ Fight” Brigade (401Bde), Philippine Army, condemned the New People’s Army (NPA) for its recent terrorist attack on the business sector of the province.

This, after some 10 to 15 hectares of banana plants were, allegedly, destroyed by the NPA, together with members of the Militia ng Bayan (MB) in Barangay Anahaw Daan, Tago, Surigao del Sur, at about 1:30 a.m., yesterday, Sept. 26.

Col. Romeo G. Gan, commander of 401Bde, said the group also burned three dump trucks and two backhoes owned by Dole Philippines Corporation in the area.

Investigations reveal that the heavy equipment were torched down by more or less 30 NPAs and 50 MBs due to the company’s failure to pay revolutionary taxes to the Communist Party of the Philippines/New People’s Army/National Democratic Front (CNN).
