KARACHI: At least three persons, including a photographer of local newspaper, were injured in a protest demonstration staged by the inhabitants of Gulshan-e-Maymar on Thursday against the anti-encroachment move of the law enforcement agencies.
According to police, hundreds of land grabbers took to the streets and pelted stones at the police van when a heavy contingent of police on the directives of Sindh High Court (SHC) reached Sector 7-C of Gulshan-e-Maymar to evacuate 52 acres of land from the land mafia. They said the protesters, who staged a sit-in against the said operation, opened fired and pelted stones on the law enforcers that left three persons, including a photographer of local newspaper, injured.
SHO Gulshan-e-Maymar said that the injured were shifted to a hospital for treatment while the police have registered a case of this pandemonium on the complaint of Advocate Abdul Jabbar. He said the SHC has directed the police to evacuate the land located in Scheme 45 of Taiser Town to its original condition under the supervision of Court Nazir.
