CRPF in Lerie a menace to women: LWO

Hundreds of women belonging to different tribes in the state capital Tuesday thronged outside the CRPF Camp located at Lerie colony, Kohima, staging a rally to protest against the alleged attempted rape on a lady resident of the colony by a CRPF jawan, identified as one Mani Kuttan, August 28 last.
Organized by Lerie Women Organization (LWO), the protest rally began with womenfolk gathering at Lerie Panchayat Hall, who later marched to the main entrance of the CRPF camp Lerie in the form of a silent procession.

Speaking at the rally, LWO president Helena Yepthomi voiced the ire of the organization towards the incident. Stating that there had been other instances of similar nature in the past, she expressed dismay that the CRPF personnel who were supposed to provide sense of security to civilians, were instead creating “fear psychosis” among residents of the colony.

She also informed that the accused jawan who was earlier handed over to police and subsequently the judiciary custody, was reportedly released on bail and presently “hiding” at CRPF Camp, Zubza. LWO called upon all to join hands in denouncing heinous crimes faced by women in the area.
