Video of Oxford riot spurs concerns there aren’t enough police

OXFORD — Oxford City Councilman John Harman said he plans to ask if the city has enough police officers on its force after a video was posted online showing a crowd gather in the street as officers subdued suspects from several fights.

The video posted on shows a large crowd surrounding Oxford police, who are holding men to the ground in the middle of High Street at Poplar Street. People in the crowd cheer, dance and someone yells “police brutality” and “riot.” Soon, officers have the suspects under arrest and come by telling the crowd to clear the streets.

“I haven’t seen a scene like that in all my years in Oxford, and it’s troubling, to say the least,” Harman said.
