Troopers plan ‘zero tolerance’ during black contractors’ bridge protest

State troopers urged commuters to be watchful while driving through East St. Louis as a group of black contractors plan a protest this morning.

The Illinois State Police said Thursday officers will maintain “zero tolerance” for any obstructions on the interstate, pedestrians on ramps or any other distractions that disrupt motorists.

Protestors gathered Friday morning outside East St. Louis city hall. They were carrying signs that read “Enough is Enough” and “Why are we being denied the American dream?”
Bridge work protest Mississppi River Bridge Construction

The Metro-East Black Contractors Organization has called for a “highway shutdown” this morning. They want more minority workers hired for the ongoing construction of a new Mississippi River bridge.
