Two Khayelitsha protesters arrested

Cape Town police on Thursday arrested at least two women who they believed started a protest over electricity cuts in Khayelitsha.

Police used teargas to try and disperse the protestors who earlier burnt tyres and rubbish in Mew Way.

A small group of protesters defied police and marched along Lansdowne Road.

Public order police were brought in to control the crowd.

The piles of rubbish protesters set alight on the streets are still burning.

When the group reached the bridge at the entrance to Khayelitsha, police managed to negotiate with them to clear the streets.

The situation is one again tense.
