Scotland Yard briefs Australia on riot threat

The head of the Australian Federal Police says he is concerned about the possibility of London-style riots happening in Australia.

Commissioner Tony Negus says home-grown threats remain the primary concern for Australia’s authorities on the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the US.

Commissioner Negus says he has sought formal briefings from London’s Scotland Yard on any implications for Australia following the recent huge riots in the British capital.

“I’ve spoken to the Prime Minister personally about this, I know it’s something she has a great interest in and we’ll be doing our best to contribute to that whole-of-government response to make sure that we’re appropriately ready here in Australia to prevent these things,” he said.
