Shougang Hierro Peru workers still on strike

According to Raul Vera, president of the Chinese steel group Shougang Steel’s Peru-based iron ore mining subsidiary Shougang Hierro Peru, the workers at Shougang Hierro Peru are still on strike asking for an increase in their salaries.

On August 31, 1,124 workers at the only mine in Peru which is operated by Shougang Hierro Peru launched a strike claiming higher salaries and better working conditions. The strike has caused a temporary halt of the mine’s operations.

Shougang Hierro Peru said it is waiting for the conclusions of Peru’s Ministry of Mines which has become involved in the case.
