Cleaner dies after cops thrash him

KANPUR: A 48-year-old truck cleaner was allegedly beaten to death by two policemen at Armapur-Panki canal under Panki police station limits on Monday. The incident occurred after the cleaner, Siyaram, allegedly refused to bribe them.

When the news spread that Siyaram, a native of Gurusahaiganj, died after being thrashed by two cops, identified as Surendra Yadav and Lal Singh, deployed on Zebra mobile, a large number of locals assembled at the spot and created a ruckus, sources said.

Sensing trouble, both the cops managed to flee. The situation was stated to be tense but under control, the police said.

IG Chandra Prakash and other police officials rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
