MANSA: In protest against the “forced” land acquisition by the state government in Gobindpura village, hundreds of farmers sat on dharna for the second consecutive day at Mansa DC office on Tuesday.
Some of them who have already accepted the compensation amount from the government, were also present at the dharna and they demanded that the amount be increased. Farmers also took out a march in the village to condemn police brutality.
Gobindpura village committee activist Gurlal Singh said policemen landed up at the village and conducted searches at various houses. He alleged that the police also beat up villagers, some of them got injured too. Mansa SSP Surinderpal Singh Parmar said, some farmer union activists had sneaked into the village and were inciting villagers to take law in their hands. Those activists were flushed out from village without using force but no one was arrested. Earlier, hundreds of activists had reached at the administrative complex from various districts and started the indefinite dharna on Monday afternoon.
