Surrendered militants block highway in support of demands

Agartala, Aug 23, (PTI) Around 250 surrendered militants today blocked the Agartla-Sabroom national highway at Birchandranagar in South Tripura in support of their 10 point charter of demands. The surrendered militants from Lachi rehabilitation camp launched a road blockade agitation at Birchandranagar under Shantirbazar police station from morning to press for their 10 point charter of demands, police sources said. The surrendered militants are demanding a grant of Rs 1.5 lakh to each returnee as one time sanction and cultivable and homestead lands for their livelihood. Earlier, they had approached the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on July 29 last with their demands. “As soon as the surrendered militants gathered, senior police officials with strong contingent of CRPF camping in the area dispersed the agitators,” police said adding no untoward incident was reported from the place.
