Police: 2 Assaulted, Property Damaged As 40 People Rampage Through Olympia

OLYMPIA, Washington — Ten people in Olympia are facing riot charges after police were called to respond to a report of about 40 people throwing trash cans and signs into a city street.

The incident happened at about 2 a.m. near 4th Avenue East and Capitol Way South, the Olympia Police Department said. As police headed to the scene, they were told that the group had moved toward 5th Avenue Southwest and Deschutes Parkway Southwest and had continued to throw things into the street.

Police said the group immediately began dispersing as officers arrived in the area.

Two people nearby said they were assaulted by several members of the group when they asked them to stop and put the items back that were being thrown into the street.

The victims were able to positively identify 10 of the people who were involved in the assaults and other acts of vandalism. Police arrested the 10 people and booked them into the Olympia City Jail on one count each of disorderly conduct/riot.
