Youth beaten up by cops at Neelangarai

CHENNAI: Residents of Kannagi Nagar staged a protest before the local police station after an 18-year-old youth was beaten up by cops on Sunday.

K Murali (26), a painter and resident of Kannagi Nagar, told Express that a local youth, Santhosh, who was an ITI student, was standing before his house around 8.30 pm. Though the reasons are not clear, he was beaten up a police party that was patrolling the area. The cops then took Santhosh in their bike to the Neelangarai station, the painter said. “He was beaten up there and sustained injuries all over his body and almost became unconscious,” he added.

While his relatives rushed the injured youth to Lifeline Hospital, the residents gathered before the police station protesting against the police action. Murali said such cases of police brutality occurred frequently.
