SYDNEY— Staff at the Cape Breton Correctional Facility in Sydney used stun guns Thursday to subdue some unruly inmates.
The early morning incident began after three offenders in a dormitory began damaging property, including a TV, furniture and bathroom fixtures. The three prisoners fashioned makeshift weapons and barricaded the doors leading into the dorm. Staff used stun guns on two of the inmates.
Emergency Health Services were on site. There were no reports of injuries to staff or offenders. No one was taken to hospital.
Police and Justice Department officials continue to investigate the matter. A spokesman for the Justice Department said he expects charges will be laid.
