Sopore youth ‘killed’ in custody

A youth was allegedly killed in police custody in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, reports and officials told Kashmir Dispatch on Sunday. Nazim Rashid alias Anjum, son of Rashid Shalla of Alamdar Mohalla, who was picked up last night by a police team for questioning in connection with the killing of a labourer, Mohammad Ashraf Dar, son of Ghulam Ahmad of Chankhan, died in the police custody.

When the news of the youth’s custodial killing spread in the town, hundreds of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers and police personnel carrying riot gear and sophisticated weapons were deployed to prevent the protests.

“The boy died in police custody,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sopore, Ashiq Hussain told this correspondent.
