HANGU: The internally displaced persons (IDPs) Saturday staged a protest demonstration against non-provision of ration, while three of them sustained injuries in a brawl with the officials of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) here on Saturday, official sources said.
The sources said that about 400 affectees belonging to Orakzai Agency and presently accommodated at the Togh Sarai Muhammad Khwaja Camp staged protest against the concerned officials of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) for not giving them food rations.
The protesters chanted slogans against the officials and damaged one of their vehicles.
The sources said the police were called in to disperse the protesters when the situation deteriorated and the altercation got serious between the officials and the IDPs.
Three IDPs including Azizullah, Gul Marjan and Mubbashir sustained injuries in the scuffle, they said.
The IDPs complained that they had not received any rations for the last four months. They accused the officials of using delaying tactics to deny them their rights.
When contacted, an official of the PRCS said that the IDPs damaged their vehicle parked in the office and also injured their staff member.
They said most of the affectees had got themselves registered at two places and were getting rations and relief items at both distribution centres and thus depriving the needy and deserving affectees of their rights.
The PRCS officials said they handed over two IDPs to the police after the incident.
When contacted, a police official in Hangu Police Station said that two internally displaced persons (IDP) Gulmat Khan and Said Amin had been arrested.
