A group of protesters caused chaos in the Chilean capital on Wednesday.
At least 20 protesters appeared suddenly and set-up barricades, cutting off traffic in Santiago’s busy Alameda Avenue.
“These people started to set the barricades on fire – they burnt them. So the security forces had to act in order to restore public order.”
Police arrested two protesters, the others ran off after being fired at with tear gas and high-pressured water.
It was unclear who this group of hooded protesters belonged to.
Chile has been rocked by a growing wave of protests in recent weeks, led by students, environmentalists and miners.
