Workers block tea export

ILLAM: As part of their protest programme, tea estate workers today obstructed export of tea produced in all tea factories in the eastern region.

Dipak Tamang, chairman, Nepal Tea Garden Workers’ Association, said workers blocked the export of 30,000 kg tea to India and other countries. “We will continue to hinder tea export till our protest lasts,” said Tamang. He said workers had halted tea export from Tokala, Barne, Giribandhu, Sathighat and other private tea factories.

The workers said they resorted to the protest after the government did not bother to address their demands.
