Mityana taxi drivers on strike over charges

Transport in Mityana District and neighbouring districts was on Friday paralysed as commuter taxi operators staged a sit-down strike in protest of what they called exorbitant charges by Mityana Allied Multipurpose Company Limited (MAMCO).

MAMCO, is an organisation which collects licence fees on behalf of the Town Council. According to Mr Fred Wotonava, the district area councillor, drivers went on strike after MAMCO failed to account for Shs6, 000 collected daily from each commuter taxi allegedly for their welfare, which is not receipted.
