Residents blockade Oodi- Modipane road

Residents of Matebele yesterday evening blockaded the under construction Oodi –Matebele road with tree stumps complaining of the dust caused by the contracted trucks. The residents said the trucks caused a lot of dust which subjects them to different health risks which might be caused by the dust.

One of the residents Modise Modise, who spoke to Gabzfm today,  said the residents had attempted on several occasions to engage in talks with the ministry of Transport and Communications on how the situation could be  best addressed but their attempts were fruitless.

Principal Public Relations Officer in the ministry Ms Doreen Moapare confirmed the incident and said her ministry sympathized with the residents but the ministry will ensure that the contractor sprinkles water to reduce the dust.  She said the police were called in to disperse the residents.
