Street protests in Kenya will not be tolerated: Iteere

Iteere says Police will not allow peace to be disrupted in the name of holding illegal demostrations.

Police commissioner Mathew Iteere has warned that police will not tolerate street protests anywhere in the country.

Iteere says even though the constitution permits peaceful demonstration, that right is not absolute and must be exercised with utmost responsibility.

“Kenya is an orderly state and we shall not allow the order we enjoy to be ruined by people breaking the law by holding illegal demonstrations”, he said.

Iteere’s remarks come in the wake of a series of street demonstrations organized by members of the civil society in Nairobi that paralysed normal operations prompting the anti riot police to be called in to calm the situation.

Iteere says Police will not allow peace to be disrupted in the name of holding illegal demonstrations.

He was speaking during the burial of the mother of the CID Director Ndegwa Muhoro,Veronica Muthoni Muhoro at Gatero village in Nyahururu district.
