Students of Wairaka College in the eastern district of Jinja on Tuesday morning went on strike protesting the hiking of school fees.
The students who blocked the Iganga-Jinja highway for some hours accuse management of increasing fees to sh450, 000 from sh350,000 without consulting their parents.
The headmaster Kato Ssetimba justifies the increment in fees structure to inflation.
Students say that they lack clean running water, served bad food and the dilapidated toiletry facilities among other grievances.
Police tried to quell the demonstration but in vain. Jinja district Police commander Jonathan Musinguzi has escorted the rowdy students who are marching to the office of the Jinja district education officer to present a petition.
