Govt to ban strikes in petroleum sector

KATHMANDU, July 5: The Ministry of Commerce and Supplies has written to the Home Ministry requesting to implement the Essential Services Act (ESA), after being affected by frequent strikes from the tanker operators.

Ganesh Dhakal, joint secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies said, “The moment Home Ministry decides about it, the ACT will be implemented”.

As per the ACT, anyone who tries to disrupt the service of petroleum supply can be shot as well.

“After the implementation of the ACT, unnecessary strikes will come to a complete halt”, Dhakal added.
